Dating back to 1685 and described as one of the world’s most beautiful wine estates, Klein Constantia is set amidst ancient trees on the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg, with views across False Bay. Today, the only red wine they produce is the Estate Red, making this a unique opportunity to drink bottled history.

The 2006 Noble Late Harvest Rhine Riesling was a once-off production that involved a combination of sun-dried and botrytised grapes. At peak ripeness two canes per vine were cut and left to hang in the vineyard, the bunches left to dry slowly. The juice obtained from these ‘cane-cut’ bunches was then combined with that from botrytised bunches sourced from the same vineyard before undergoing spontaneous fermentation in 500-litre barrels and left to mature for 16 months before being bottled. This award-winning sweet wine is a delightful accompaniment to festive sweet treats.

Winemaker Matt Day made a whopping 10 Sauvignon Blancs in 2015 (not all commercially released). With a firm belief that each reflects the unique soils of the block, experimental techniques were employed and several were made as single barrel examples including the Block 371 featured in this lot. Full of citrus intensity with an earthy texture and weight with a similar orange zest note to the 2015 Perdeblokke.
