Fèlsina is a leading wine estate in Chianti Classico, founded in 1966. It is situated at the southeast edge of the Classico appellation. It was once one of many estates owned by the Dukes of Tuscany, and was farmed mainly by sharecroppers growing olives until World War II. The vineyards are located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southeastern part of the Chianti Classico appellation, to the northeast of Siena. Almost exclusively with a southwestern exposure, they sprawl across ventilated slopes at an altitude ranging from 320 to 420 meters above sea level. The Riserva is 100% Sangiovese aged in a combination of casks and smaller French oak barrels. Producer tasting note: "Ruby red with deep intensity and hue. Fruity, fine and elegant aromas dominated by wild berries, along with array of spicy notes. Fruity on the palate with good tannins and a lingering finish."
In 2007 the prestigious Italian wine magazine Gambero Rosso, identified I Sodi as one of the only 3 Hyper Tuscans, the reference being not just to its great intrinsic quality, but also to the exclusive use of Italian-born grape varieties. Castellare di Castellina is a Tuscan wine estate located near to the town of Castellina in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Its flagship wine is I Sodi di San Niccolo, a Toscana IGT wine made predominantly from Sangiovese with a small amount of Malvasia Nera, in the spirit of the region's famous Super Tuscan wines. The wine has twice made the annual Wine Spectator Top 100 and regularly achieves the top Tre Bicchiere (Three Glass) award from the Gambero Rosso guide.
