These are some of the most sought after sweet wines from Monbazillac. Thierry Despres is the very jovial owner and wine-maker of Grande Maison. The sweet Monbazillac’s are Thierry’s pride and joy. Certified organic by Demeter since 2018. The Cuvee de Monstres (Monster Cuvee) comes from low yielding, very old vines: 70 to 100 years' old.
Individual botrytis affected grapes are hand selected from up to 7 picking tries through the vineyard. Thierry also built a dam among the vineyards to help induce the attack of botrytis. ‘Monstres’ is a wine that is made with the same care and attention to detail that goes into the making of Château d’Yquem. Only 2 barrels produced from yields of 3.5 hl/ha after seven pickings of individual botrytised berries. This wine shows great depth and concentration while remaining remarkably fresh and elegant.
