From dazzling diamond rings to its signature blue boxes, the brand is synonymous with class. But Tiffany & Co., while probably best known as a jeweller, is in fact a whole cultural institution in itself, with a rich legacy that has earned it a faithful place in the hearts of collectors and connoisseurs alike.

The Origins

Founded in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young in New York City, Tiffany & Co. began as a stationery and fancy goods store. By the mid-19th century, the company had already cemented its reputation as a purveyor of fine jewellery, earning the nickname “The King of Diamonds.”

In 1886, Tiffany introduced the now-iconic Tiffany Setting, revolutionising engagement rings by elevating the diamond to maximise its sheer brilliance. This innovation transformed the brand into a household name synonymous with romance and class.

A Hallmark of Brilliance

Tiffany’s designs are celebrated for their elegance and impeccable quality. The brand has collaborated with renowned designers like Elsa Peretti, Jean Schlumberger, and Paloma Picasso, producing collections that set standards.

Its sterling silver creations, often marked with the “Tiffany & Co.” hallmark, have become collectables in their own right. From silverware to sculptural jewellery, these pieces represent the pinnacle of deluxe quality assurance.

Tiffany's Cultural Impact

Tiffany’s influence extends beyond jewellery. After all, who could forget the role the brand played in the 1961 classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Audrey Hepburn’s portrayal of Holly Golightly immortalised Tiffany & Co. as the ultimate representation of luxury and aspiration.

Tiffany has also created some of history’s most famous trophies and keepsakes, including the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the Super Bowl and custom pieces for U.S. presidents and international royalty.
