In our debut Fine Art and Books Online auction we are pleased to present a range of works that will appeal to both the established collector, as well as those just beginning their journey in Art and Book collecting.
In the first half of the auction we are pleased to showcase a group of works by some of South Africa’s premier artists. Some of the highlights include a selection of works on paper by Walter Battiss; a range of works by Judith Mason, including the artist book The Gospel According to Judas; Henry Moore’s Sketchbook 1928: The West Wind Relief; photographic works by Colin Jones and Avant Car Guard; and an evocative group of large-scale works created from melted plastic by Mbongeni Buthelezi.
The depth and range of our historical, modern and contemporary art and photography books in the second half of the auction has great appeal across the collecting spectrum. Of particular note are books signed by David Goldblatt, William Kentridge, Helen Sebidi and David Koloane, Walter Battiss, and Nelson Mandela; classic South African Art reference books by Esme Berman, Grania Ogilvie and Elza Miles; and rarities such as Norman Catherine’s Last Letters From the Wilderness, Battiss’ Bushman Art Portfolio Number One and The Artists of the Rocks, and Christi Truter’s Alexis Preller.
