More Information

Black with red upholstery, two door coupé, air cooled four cylinder 1600cc 90 HP rear engine, original Blaupunkt radio, Zenith carburettors

This car has undergone a nut and bolt restoration, the bodywork and painting was done in 2016 with the floor pan, left and right rocker panels and the panel below the fuel tank imported from Stoddard in America. The original colour was black, and the car was imported by Lindsay Saker in Johannesburg. A full engine rebuild has been done to 1959 era specifications. The engine has new bearings, camshaft, pistons and sleeves and a bigger oil pump. The engine plates were powder coated to the original colour specification. The car has the original 6v battery and system and has new Vredenstein tyres, the same as used on the Porsche Museum cars. Included with the car is the original 1956 356A factory manual, a new owner's manual, a tool kit, a few 356 coffee table books and a spare 356A engine which is sold as is. The engine may be the matching number engine to the car. This car has been with the current owner since 1993. With the body designed by Erwin Komenda, only 21 045 356A cars were built between 1955 and 1959. Approximately half that number survive today.
