PROVENANCE
Derek Harraway

From correspondence between Mr Harraway and Assistant Editor of Country Life, dated 1965:
"Review by Queen Victoria in June 1856, of troops at Aldershot on their return from Crimea. She was accompanied by her two guests, the King of the Belgians and Prince Oscar of Sweden. Behind her rode the Prince consort and behind him their two eldest sons, the Prince of Wales and Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh. It was on this occasion that the Victoria Cross was instituted for conspicuous gallantry in the field."
