Don Clerk is a South African emerging artist born in March of 1997. He has been a practicing artist since 2020, though he has been creating since a young age. He is mostly self-taught and take great efforts to continually develop his artistic skills and voice. Don has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and philosophy and his interest in these fields continues to strongly influence his work today. Don works mainly with pen & ink though recently he has been experimenting with mixed media and watercolour. His artworks are produced paying close attention to the gesture of the subjects being drawn and capture the interplay between light and shadow to create a sense of realism. His work is inspired by the complexities of the human form and explores the relationship between one’s body and personal identity. This stems from his own body issues and developing understanding of his identity. His style of drawing has been inspired by artists such as Albrecht Durer and Alphonso Dunn.
