Rebound copies, in full leather hardcover bindings, with gilt lettering to spines, and gilt tooling to the spines and boards. Marbled endpapers and edges. With frontispiece to vol. 1, and various plates in both volumes. Collated and complete, except for one plate missing in vol. 2 (‘Boys Peeping at Nature’). With lint bookmarks.
The second, corrected edition.
Condition: Overall good. Minor rubbing and small scuff marks to the boards and the spines. Lint bookmark of vol. 1 has come loose. Binder’s labels fixed to the front pastedowns. Some foxing throughout. One small chip to rear pastedown of vol. 1, and some glue residue to rear free endpaper. Small repairs made with slips to paper to several pages of vol. 2. Some stains to first few pages of vol. 2. Some insect damage to the rear free endpaper of vol. 2. Light offsetting to pages facing the plates. Both volumes are tightly bound.
