At their Classic Collectible Cars, Motor Cycles and Automobilia auction held on Monday, 20 August 2007 in Rosebank, Stephan Welz & Co. in association with Sotheby’s broke the continent-wide record for a sale of a collectible motor vehicle.
The 1938 Mercedes Benz 540K Cabriolet Supercharged belonging to the Ex German Ambassador in South Africa sold for a record R7,500,000 (including buyers commission).This was a new record for the sale of collectible on the African continent.
Other highlights included the sale of an 1890 Gormally and Jeffries Penny Farthing Cycle which went under the hammer for R50,000 (including buyers commission), the number plate CA 3 which went to an extremely delighted buyer for R378,000 (including buyers commission), a 1955 MG TF which sold for R278,500 (including buyers commission), and a 1964 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible which sold for R267,000 (including buyers commission),
