Many unexpected facets to specialist evening Jewellery session on 20 April 2010
April 15, 2010 - The first of the April Auction's two specialist evening sessions is dedicated to Diamonds and Jewellery, and commences at 18h30 on Tuesday 20 April, 2010. The second evening session will be on the following evening, dedicated to Paintings. The press release published here highlights two very different aspects of the Diamonds and Jewellery session.

The new sequence of auction sessions allows the company to have two feature evenings, one on Tuesday 20 April, for Diamonds and Jewellery and one on Wednesday 21 April, for Paintings. Both evening sessions will commence at 18h30 at the Biermann Avenue, Rosebank offices of Stephan Welz & Company.

 

The two hundred lot jewellery session is, not surprisingly, overflowing with diamonds and jewellery to appeal to all tastes and budgets, but there are probable star performers amongst the vast array of consignments coming under the hammer.

 Lot 356, 357 & 363

(From left to right) Lot 356 is illustrated here in an unmounted configuration. It is a 1,7130cts solitaire diamond ring, claw-set with a round brilliant-cut diamond in 18ct white gold. It is accompanied by a certificate from E.G.L., no.100200117/65701, stating that the diamond is an I Colour and VVS2 clarity. Its pre-sale estimate is R40 000 – R60 000. Next in line is lot 357, also shown unmounted.  It is a 3,1330cts solitaire diamond ring, also claw-set with a round brilliant-cut diamond in 18ct gold. It is accompanied by a certificate from E.G.L., no 100200119/6501, stating that the diamond is a G Colour and VVS2 Clarity. Its pre-sale estimate is R200 000 – R300 000. The third diamond pictured above is an unset oval-cut diamond of 15,0260cts. It is accompanied by a certificate from E.G.L., no CDB81000298/504188, stating that the diamond is an L colour and SI3 clarity. This outstanding and impressive diamond carries a pre-sale estimate of R450 000 – R650 000.

 Lot 447

As an example of one of the many unusual lots on offer, lot 447 is a gem-set tiara set with faceted briolette of peridots, green quartz, citrine and silver topaz in 9ct gold. This regal piece is pre-sale estimated at R60 000 – R80 000.
